The Raiders have a large haul of draft picks on day one, but may want to explore some options to acquire some additional picks on day two.

Having three picks in the first-round of the draft should treat the Oakland Raiders quite well. Although, they only have one pick on day two, during the second and third-round. The second and third-round is a sweet spot, where teams can find good value in a quality player outside of the marquee first-round selections.

The Raiders currently sit with pick No. 35 as their only selection on day two. Their third-round pick was sent to the Pittsburgh Steelers, as part of the compensation when they acquired Antonio Brown.

With Mike Mayock‘s knowledge and experience in the draft, he knows the value of day two selections. Second-round guys are typically a casualty of someone who slipped out of the first-round, but has first-round ability. Mayock’s vision might be to acquire even more draft capital, then what he already has in the palm of his hands in order to keep revamping this Raiders new roster.

Mayock spoke out last week at his pre-draft press conference about his intentions on possibly trading up into picks 20 to 60.

“I happen to like 20 through 60, I always have,” Mayock said. “I think there’s a lot of guys that love the game and are safer picks, sometimes, then top-10 picks. So, I look at those picks in there.”

The Raiders currently sit with a large hole in round three without a draft pick. They will see 71 picks go by after they make their No. 35th selection and wait to pick again at No. 106, unless they decide to trade up.

“Personally you just heard me say how much I love 20 to 60,” Mayock said. “I’d love to get a couple more picks in there. I just think we have a lot of holes that need to be filled. I think that’s a really good place to go fishing.”

As Mayock said, the Raiders still have a lot of holes that need to be filled on the roster. With having four picks inside the top 35 and a potential trade up scenario into the second or third-round, the Raiders will look for those rookies to be impact players that can fill the holes.

Mayock’s influence inside the Raiders building appears to be a tremendous addition. He’s been working around the clock this offseason, wheeling and dealing. The Raiders have been arguably the busiest team this offseason, making numerous trades and free-agent signings. Mayock shows no indication that he will slow down from his aggressive ways, come the draft.
