ByronMurphy. . player. 818. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Washington. Cornerback

Byron Murphy has long been the number one cornerback in this class to myself and many others, including JBB’s own Jose Sanchez. I was banging the table for Murphy at 27th overall yesterday, but Murphy potentially falling to 35 would be a dream come true for the Silver and Black. Rumor has it though that the Cardinals are the favorites to pick him at 33rd overall.

Regardless, Murphy has a rare blend of athleticism and football IQ that makes him the perfect defensive back. His quick twitch speed and hip fluidity allow him to break on the ball in a heartbeat while his intelligence allows him to read the game extremely well and be in positions to make plays.

Not to mention, Murphy has an alpha-dog mentality and is a leader, a trend from yesterday’s picks. His swagger in the secondary alongside Gareon Conley, Lamarcus Joyner, and new safety Johnanthan Abram would give the Raiders a shot on defense, a huge upgrade from previous seasons.

The Raiders should run to the podium if Murphy is still there at 35. If not, maybe they consider trading out and acquiring more picks, Mike Mayock has mentioned that several times throughout the draft process. Also, the team reportedly turned down two offers for 35 already. Who knows what is going to happen, buckle up, and enjoy the ride Raiders fans.
