After adding three potential starters with their first round picks on Thursday night, the Oakland Raiders added another defensive back in Round 2.
The Oakland Raiders held three picks going into the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft on Thursday night, and incredibly, they did not move up or down. There had been plenty of speculation that general manager Mike Mayock could move one of the later round picks, adding more draft capital for Day 2, but that did not happen.
With the No. 4 overall pick, the Raiders finally brought in an edge rusher, selecting Clemson star Clelin Ferrell. This is a guy who fits their defensive scheme perfectly, and should be an impact player in year one along this defensive line.
Following Ferrell, the Raiders picked at No. 24 and No. 27 overall, bringing in talent on both sides of the ball. At No. 24, the team brought in Josh Jacobs, a stellar running back from Alabama, who is a three-down back. Later, Johnathan Abram, a hard-hitting safety from Mississippi State heard his named called by the Silver and Black.
Tonight, the Raiders had the third overall pick, but instead moved the selection to move up later in the draft. They grabbed pick No. 38 from the Jaguars, as well as pick No. 109, sending back No. 35, 140, and 235.
Holding pick No. 38, the Raiders swung another trade, sending the pick to the Buffalo Bills for No. 40 and No. 158.
With the No. 40 overall pick, the Raiders finally made a pick, selecting Clemson cornerback Trayvon Mullen. Mullen was the Most Valuable Player of the Tigers national championship win against Alabama, and becomes the second Clemson player added during the 2019 NFL Draft.
The Raiders currently do not have anymore draft picks tonight, so it will be interesting to see if they stay put, and just wait until their four selections on Saturday. This has been a very productive draft for the Silver and Black so far, and the offseason workouts cannot get here soon enough.
