With the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft in the books, let us take a look forward to Day 2 of the Draft, where the Oakland Raiders will pick once.
The Oakland Raiders filled a bunch of needs on Thursday night, adding three potential starters to their depth chart. With the No. 4 overall pick, the Raiders shocked some people, as they added Clelin Ferrell from Clemson, even though Josh Allen from Kentucky was on the board.
Allen was long considered a top-5 pick, but Ferrell was an absolute monster during his time with the Tigers, helping them to two national titles. At No. 24, the Raiders focused on the offensive side of the ball, bringing in Alabama running back Josh Jacobs, whom Ferrell played against in last year’s title game.
Rounding out the first round, Oakland went back to the defense, bringing in the top safety in the draft class in Johnathan Abram from Mississippi State. Abram is not only a tremendous player on the field, but he is an excellent guy off of it, so the Raiders got a special player at No. 27.
As we turn our attention to Day 2, it will not be as exciting as the first round, as the Raiders hold only one pick. It will come early, as they will pick third in the second round, and if they do not add picks, they will have to wait til Saturday for their next selection.
The pick the Raiders hold is No. 35, and there are a number of different ways they can go with the selection. Oakland still needs help along the offensive line, and could add another edge rusher, but fans of the team have to be happy with the haul on Thursday.
Prior to the NFL Draft, it was very important to general manager Mike Mayock to get more draft picks in Day 2, but they did not move any of their first rounders on Thursday night. Maybe he can work some magic and add some selections on Friday, but as it stands, it is going to be a quick night for Raider Nation.
