With the No. 149 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders selected Hunter Renfrow, and our Kenny King takes a look at the pick.
A player nicknamed “Clark Kent” by his Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, wide receiver Hunter Renfrow is a player who can quickly turn from an Average Joe to Superman. The 5-foot-10 scrappy wide receiver had become a player who quickly became a man who was affectionately known as Mr. 3rd down, thanks to his clutch catches reliability on the field.
A player that was labeled “the perfect patriot” by many members of the media, Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden are staying true to the Belichick model of drafting players that may not be a sexy pick, but are the right pick to fit the team needs.
The Raiders have addressed the loss of slot wide receiver, Seth Roberts by adding a player who is known for his clutch factor. Renfrow is remembered by many for his touchdown catch in the 2017 National Championship game from quarterback Deshaun Watson with one second left.
Renfrow was a virtual first down machine with 79% of his catches resulting in a first down and 29% of his total catches being 3rd down receptions. The Raiders have added quite the target and safety net for sixth year quarterback Derek Carr.
Carr is no stranger to Renfrow, as he showed his love for the wideout in a tweet back in 2017, when Renfrow was the hero of the College Football National Championship Game.
Andddd Hunter Renfrow is awesome... #NationalChampionship

In his senior year with the Tigers, Renfrow had 49 receptions for 544 yards with an average of 11.1 yards per rec4.59 40 yard dash expect Renfrow to compete with WR Ryan Grant for the slot position. Mayock and Gruden have gone into the offseason with the intention of surrounding Derek Carr with quality talent and playmakers and so far they have succeeded.
