NFL Draft 2019 Results: Analysis on all Oakland Raiders draft picks

Round 4, Pick No. 137: Foster Moreau, TE, LSU

With the loss of tight end Jared Cook to free agency, the tight end position became a bit of a need. It wasn’t a top priority, but if the Raiders could draft someone to bolster those ranks then they will pull the trigger. They did so by drafting tight end Foster Moreau out of LSU 137th overall in the fourth round. If you don’t know who he is, then it wouldn’t be difficult for you to surmise what kind of tight end he is.

What is Jon Gruden’s ideal tight end? Someone who is a bully, smash mouth blocker. That is what Foster Moreau is. However, Gruden didn’t draft him in the fourth round to be just a blocking tight end. There is going to be hope that they can help him grow into a pass catching tight end as well. Moreau didn’t have much production as a receiver.

His senior year he only reeled in 22 catches for 272 yards and two touchdowns.

As far as being a receiver, there is a shot. That shot, however, is going to need some pinpoint accuracy. If Moreau is just strictly blocking, then the value isn’t worth it. All the Raiders need is to get him to be serviceable, so that defenses don’t think they are predictably running when he’s in. The tight end position is now another position that is overfilled.

Who will be the odd man out? I’d suspect veteran Derek Carrier, but only time will tell.
