Round 5, Pick No. 149: Hunter Renfrow, WR, Clemson

What former Raiders receiver Seth Roberts wasn’t, Hunter Renfrow is. That is a wide receiver who consistently catches the ball with no lapses in concentration. A receiver who can run sharp and crisp routes.

A receiver who can create space and find the soft spot in the defense. Hunter Renfrow being selected 149th overall in the fifth round out of Clemson is great value.

The Oakland Raiders desperately needed a legitimate slot receiver. Sure, Antonio Brown can swing inside and excel, but he can’t be expected to do it all for the Raiders. A true slot receiver was a glaring need, thus the Silver and Black brings in one in Hunter Renfrow.

To prop him up even more, he’s not strictly a slot receiver. Renfrow can play outside if need be, but expect him to be a slot threat in the Raiders offense.

Some people may have wanted the Raiders to have targeted the more known receivers earlier like a Hakeem Butler, but once again picking Renfrow is value. A big body receiver isn’t as crucial in offenses as a versatile slot receiver, especially in Jon Gruden’s offense.

His addition to the wide receiving group now brings the crowded room’s competition levels into soaring heights. This summer of work will not be for the feint of heart for those looking to make a roster spot.
