The Oakland Raiders have done their due diligence on numerous players throughout the draft process, and signed some great UDFAs after the draft.

Every year after the draft comes to a close, there’s still a large amount of players looking for a new place to call home.  After the Oakland Raiders concluded their draft on Saturday, they turned their focus to who didn’t get selected.

By doing so, they scooped up UC Davis WR Keelan Doss to come into training camp and compete for a spot.

For many, it was surprising that Doss went undrafted with the tools that he brings to the table. Doss coming out of a small school, may have fallen out of the draft due to his lack of recognition at UC Davis.

He had quality production in college, but when attending a small school, teams want guys to dominate over their competition. In his final year at UC Davis, he played 13 games where he caught 118 passes for 1,334-yards and 9 touchdowns.

Doss was able to burst onto the scene at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, flashing his ability to talent evaluators across the NFL. After going undrafted, Gruden had familiarity with Doss, as Gruden and the Raiders coaching staff coached the North team, which Doss played for during that week.

Doss is a larger receiving option, listed at 6’2″ 211 pounds, who can go up and win the 50/50 ball. He raised some eye brows at his pro day when he ran faster than most expected, posting a 4.45 40-yard dash.

Doss is a local kid from the area, as he attended Alameda high school. The Raiders also got a second glance at him when they hosted their local pro day with 39 local prospects that attended the event.

Doss is joining a loaded wide receiver group in Oakland that contains Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams, Hunter Renfrow, Ryan Grant, J.J Nelson, Dwayne Harris, Marcell Ateman, Keon Hatcher, and Saeed Blacknall. It appears Gruden is going to have his wide receiver group battle it out for spots on the final 53-man roster.

It shouldn’t shock Raiders fans if he fights his way onto this final roster. Doss is the most decorated UC Davis football player for a reason, he is dangerous with the ball in his hands and can make plays out of nothing. He’s exceptional in the mix of traffic with high-caliber vision, fighting his way through tackles.

The Raiders rookie minicamp will kick off on Friday, May 3rd for the coaching staff to get their first live action with the new players they’ve added.
