Guard

I’m a little surprised that Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock didn’t add any offensive lineman via the draft. Offensive guard is still lacking after they traded away Kelechi Osemele to the New York Jets. Gabe Jackson will hold down his incumbent position as right guard, but what about left guard?

It’s not necessarily a critical factor that left guard isn’t penciled in right now. The offensive guard position is fairly interchangeable as well, so long as the offensive line coach can implement them smoothly into his style. However, does any really have much faith in Tom Cable?

Regardless, left guard is a need for the Oakland Raiders and it’s Denzelle Goods job for the taking. That’s at least what Gruden believes, unless they actually do sign Richie Incognito. Guard is a need for the Raiders, but they can always try to poach someone who gets cut during training camp if Good doesn’t pan out. Overall, the offensive line is fine for now.

The Raiders can always draft Rodney Hudson’s replacement next season if they can’t or don’t want to resign him.

The development of Kolton Miller is the only thing that matters with the line. He needs to hit major strides this season in order for the offense to reach its potential. That way it won’t matter who’s really playing at guard cause if the offensive tackle position isn’t solidified they have a serious problem.
