The Oakland Raiders added solid depth up and down the roster in 2019, and here is a look at the quarterbacks heading into the summer.

Quarterbacks: Derek Carr, Mike Glennon, Landry Jones, Nathan Peterman

Heading into the 2019 offseason for the Oakland Raiders, rumors were swirling that the team may look to move on from franchise quarterback Derek Carr. Despite head coach Jon Gruden and first-year general manager stating time and time again that Carr was their man, the rumors intensified in the weeks leading up to the 2019 NFL Draft.

Well, not only did the Raiders not take a quarterback in the first round, they did not take one at all, signalling that Carr is going to be their franchise guy heading into 2019, and likely beyond.

Entering the summer months, the only question surrounding the quarterback position group is who will be the backup to Carr in 2019. Last summer, E.J. Manuel and Connor Cook were battling it out for the spot, but the team ended up bringing in A.J. McCarron late in the preseason, and he was the backup all season long.

The talent behind Carr this summer is much better than in 2018, as guys who have started at the NFL level will battle it out for the position. Mike Glennon and Nathan Peterman both have starting experience, and Landry Jones has spent his career backing up a future Hall of Famer in Ben Roethlisberger.

While not a battle for a starting job, this is definitely a position battle to keep an eye on this summer, and it will be interesting to see if the backup will be a guy who is currently on the roster.

This is Carr’s second season in Jon Gruden’s offense, and the expectation from Raiders fans is that he will return to the form that nearly won him an MVP award back in 2016. The Raiders have added some fantastic options in the passing game, bulked up the offensive tackle position, and should be much better than their 4-12 record from a year ago.
