Projected Starters and Backups

It should be no surprise that Vontaze Burfict will be wearing the green dot on his helmet, cementing his status as the Raiders’ middle linebacker. Burfict and Guenther’s chemistry go back to their Cincinnati days and despite his troubled history, Burfict is arguably the most solid all-around linebacker Oakland has had in recent memory.

Marshall is known for his strong tackling ability which will be useful as the weakside linebacker. It must be noted that on the contrary, he is not regarded for his pass coverage prowess, which is part of the responsibilities as the WLB.

On the strong side could be Marquel Lee, but don’t be surprised if Tahir Whitehead’s strong play towards the end of last season begs to differ. If he can continue the same trend he should have a spot atop the depth chart. Especially with two veteran acquisitions alongside him, expect improved play from Whiteside this season.

Whitehead and Lee could switch backup duties as the season rolls along, with Jason Cabinda and Nicholas Morrow rounding out the secondary positions on the depth chart.
