The Raiders trade for Antonio Brown was their biggest splash of the offseason, and he could be in to break a bunch of single-season records in 2019.

The Oakland Raiders knew they needed to do something to improve the wide receiver position this offseason, and they accomplished that early in the process. The Raiders traded away their 2019 third and fifth round picks to the Pittsburgh Steelers for Antonio Brown, who just happens to be one of the best wideouts in the NFL.

Coming off six straight seasons with 100 or more catches, as well as 1,000 yards, Brown is slated to have a monster season in his first year in the Silver and Black. In fact, it Brown puts together a season like he has the last six years, he could shatter some of the Raiders single-season records set by the likes of Art Powell and Tim Brown.

For Tim Brown, his run with the Raiders led to enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and he holds the team record for receptions (104) and yards (1,408) in a single season. Powell holds the Raiders single-season touchdown mark with 16.

Powell’s mark will be hard to top, even for Brown, who has a career-high of 15, set last season in only 15 games with the Steelers. However, Tim Brown’s records are in serious danger, as Brown has gone over 104 receptions four times, and has eclipsed the 1,408 yard mark on four occasions as well.

Head coach Jon Gruden is a mastermind when it comes to the offensive side of the ball, and he will do wonders with a talent like Antonio Brown. AB has a nice cast of weapons behind him as well, including Tyrell Williams, Hunter Renfrow, and J.J. Nelson to name a few, making it hard for teams to focus all of their energy on him in the passing game.

The addition of Brown to this Raiders offense should pay immediate dividends for Derek Carr, who had to battle through so many trade rumors this offseason. He has stated that this is his team, and he will be the quarterback for as long as he wants, but that has not stopped the rumors from circulating once again that the Raiders could be in the market for his replacement in a stacked 2020 QB class.

The bottom line is, Carr controls his own destiny, and throwing to a guy like AB, as well as the rest of the weapons should lead to a record-breaking year for Carr in 2019. This is an offense that will be vastly improved up front, and at the skill positions, and with AB as the top weapon, expect Tim Brown’s single-season records to be in serious jeopardy.
