During the 2018 NFL season, the Oakland Raiders picked up Minnesota Vikings rookie kicker Daniel Carlson off the scrapheap, and it proved to be the best move they made during the regular season. Carlson would go on to be automatic after putting on the Silver and Black, showing the kind of talent that made him a draft pick of the Vikings in the 2018 NFL Draft.

At punter, the Raiders did not have as much luck, as rookie Johnny Townsend really struggled in his first season in the NFL. Oakland has brought in A.J. Cole to battle Townsend for the starting punter job this spring, and there are always the whispers that the team may decide to bring back former Pro Bowler Marquette King, who apologized to the organization this offseason.
