Best offensive lineman in Raiders history: 8. Don Mosebar

Speaking of legendary centers, another name on that list has to be Don Mosebar. After attending college and playing football at USC, the Raiders selected Mosebar in the first round of the iconic 1983 NFL Draft.

After serving as a backup for one season, Mosebar was tasked with filling in the shoes of Mickey Marvin at right guard. After 10 starts there in 1985, Mosebar shifted over to center to take over for Dave Dalby and the rest is history.

Mosebar would maintain that starting role, minus one season in 1988 starting at left tackle, until 1994 when he retired. After 173 games, including 156 starts, Mosebar ranks 15th all-time in games played for the Raiders.

Learning from one of the greats in Dalby surely helped the young Mosebar, but he went on to create his own legacy. At 6-foot-6 and nearly 300 pounds, Mosebar was an anchor in the middle of the Raiders’ offensive line. The term immovable object is probably a good way to describe him during his stay in Los Angeles with the Silver and Black.

In his career, Mosebar was named to three Pro Bowls and one All-Pro Team. He played in nine career playoff games and was a member of the 1983 Super Bowl winning team, the last championship the Raiders won. An unfortunate career-ending eye injury shortened his professional career. Who knows what could have been?
