Oakland Raiders top-5 offseason moves that will be big contributors in 2019
4. Tyrell Williams
The Raiders brought in arguably the best wide receiver in this year’s free-agent class when they signed Tyrell Williams. Williams is a large outside receiver, who can run with the best of them.
During his time with the Chargers, he was never viewed as the teams ‘go-to’ playmaker due to other players on the offense, but his production was never an issue. When he was given his opportunity, Williams always found a way to standout.
Williams will bring a different dimension to the offense in Gruden’s second year back, as he’ll be a target to look towards in the red zone. He possesses a special combination of height and speed, where he can win the battle in multiple different ways.
When Carr has played his best, it’s when he’s active in the vertical game down field. Williams’ best trait is going deep, and winning the 50/50 ball. Once the two find that down-field connection with one another, opposing defenses could be forced to bring the safety over the top when Williams bust down the sideline.
Not only is this a big win for the Raiders with the signing of Williams, but it also weakens a divisional opponent, as the Chargers lose a quality playmaker on the outside.
