As we inch closer to training camp, we take a look at a 2020 NFL Mock Draft that has the Oakland Raiders adding to both sides of the line in round one.
For the second straight NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders will have multiple first round picks. During the 2019 NFL Draft, the Raiders selected three times in the first round, and next April, they will get to make two selections.
According to DraftSite.com, the Raiders will look to continue to add to the offensive, and defensive lines in 2020, utilizing their two first round picks on bolstering both sides of the ball.
With their first of two first round picks, the site has the team selecting Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown with the No. 3 overall pick. For this to happen, the Raiders will have to be one of the worst teams in the NFL again in 2019, and I do not quite think they will be picking this high with their pick.
However, getting Brown would be an incredible get for the Raiders, as they have already committed to bolstering the interior of the defensive line in recent drafts. In 2018, the Raiders added Maurice Hurst and P.J. Hall, two guys who played very well as rookies last season.
Brown was rated as a potential first round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, but decided to return to Auburn for another go-around. Standing 6-foot-5, and weighing over 300 pounds, Brown is a special talent, and would be an immediate impact player alongside Hurst as a starter in Paul Guenther’s 4-3 scheme.
Later in round one, with the Chicago Bears first round pick, the site has the Raiders taking Tennessee offensive tackle Trey Smith. Oakland already used a first round pick on a tackle in 2018, and this past offseason, they spent a ton of money on Trent Brown, who may become the best right tackle in the NFL once again in 2019.
The only way I see this happening is if Kolton Miller does not takes a step forward, and when healthy as a rookie last season, he proved he could be a legitimate left tackle at the NFL level. Smith is a solid talent, but this is a position where the Raiders are set in for a while, especially if Miller succeeds this Fall.
There are going to be a ton of mock drafts released from now until next April, and they are all fun to take a look at. The selection of Brown early is a solid one, but later in round one, there are plenty of other routes the Raiders could make with that Bears pick.
