1968: Fred Biletnikoff and Warren Wells
The 1968 Oakland Raiders were one of the best teams in franchise history, putting together a 12-2 record in John Rauch‘s third season at the helm. Coming off an AFL Championship in 1967, the Raiders came back ready to defend their title, but would end up losing to the New York Jets in the championship game.
Still, this was a special team, highlighted by two guys who could seriously go up and get the football. During this 1968 season, both Fred Biletnikoff and Warren Wells finished with over 1,000 receiving yards a piece, becoming the first duo in team history accomplish the feat, and the last until over 30 years later.
For the season, quarterback Daryle Lamonica threw for over 3,200 yards, while Wells finished the year as the team leader in receiving yards with 1,137, averaging over 21 yards per catch. Biletnikoff was not far off, finishing the season with 1,037 receiving yards, as he led the team with 61 receptions, and the combo added 17 touchdowns as a pair.
