2001: Tim Brown and Jerry Rice

The infamous 2001 Raiders football season is mostly known for the “Tuck Rule Game,” where Charles Woodson strip-sacked Tom Brady, sealing a Raiders victory in the Divisional Round, but it was ruled an incomplete pass. That game ended up being Jon Gruden’s last as the head coach, as he was moved to Tampa Bay for the 2002 season, and his team beat the Raiders in the following Super Bowl.

While the season is known for those things, it is also the first season where a wide receiver duo went over 1,000 yards a piece since 1968. In 2001, the combination of Tim Brown and Jerry Rice helped quarterback Rich Gannon throw for over 3,800 yards, as the pair both had over 1,100 receiving yards a piece.

Brown ended up leading the team in receiving yards, edging out Rice by only 26 yards, as they both finished with nine touchdowns as well. This was one of the more dynamic duos in the NFL, which was quite impressive, considering they were both 35-or-above during the season. They would be the last tandem to accomplish this feat for 15 years.
