The Oakland Raiders should have a dynamic offense in 2019, and their current “triplets” were recently ranked in the top half of the NFL.
The Oakland Raiders finished the 2018 season with an injured Marshawn Lynch, a banged up wide receiver group, and a quarterback getting sacked way too often. Lynch saw his final NFL season end early, making room for Doug Martin to be the feature back, and when Amari Cooper was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, Jordy Nelson became the No. 1 wide receiver.
To finish the season with Martin and Nelson at the top of the depth chart at running back and wide receiver was not ideal, and it showed with how inconsistent this Raiders offense was. Entering 2019, the team is much better at the top of the depth chart in those two departments, and their quarterback could be on the brink of a possible MVP season.
Ali Bhanpuri from NFL.com recently ranked the “triplets” for each NFL team, and the Raiders came in at No. 13 overall. The triplets encompass the starting quarterback, top running back, and top wide receiver, and it is safe to say that the Raiders wideout helped carry the group.
While Josh Jacobs was ranked as the No. 23rd overall starting running back, and Derek Carr ranked at No. 13 among quarterbacks, Antonio Brown was the third-rated wideout. Of course, some believe that Brown is the best wide receiver in the game, and for Carr, he certainly has the talent to be a top-10 quarterback in today’s NFL.
The Wild Card for this offense this season will be Jacobs, who recently signed his rookie contract with the team. Jacobs has that do-everything ability that head coach Jon Gruden has been waiting for, and he will certianly play a huge role in this Raiders offense as a rookie in 2019.
If anything else, this is going to be a much better offense than last season, when Carr was running for his life for most of the year, and the unit as a whole was taken over by injury. If all things click for the Raiders in 2019, they could certainly have one of the better “triplets” groups in the NFL, and one can only imagine what Carr is going to be able to do with this kind of talent around him.
