One of the bigger position battles this summer for the Oakland Raiders will be at running back, where there is a logjam, and only so may spots to go around.

The Oakland Raiders will have an interesting position battle at running back during training camp, and one man will more than likely not make the roster. The Raiders currently have five backs that could make the team.

The Raiders starting back for 2019 will be rookie Josh Jacobs, so there is no question that he will make the team. Jalen Richard was a big part of the Raiders offense last season as a receiving back, and we can expect the same in 2019. Doug Martin performed well last season when Marshawn Lynch went  down, rushing for over 700 yards, and considering he just got a new contract from the Raiders, it would be surprising to see him get cut.

The two backs battling for the final spot on the roster are Deandre Washington and Chris Warren III. Washington has not gotten much action on the field since his rookie season, and it would be no surprise if they let him go. In his three year career, Washington has 735 yards, four touchdowns, and only 174 rush attempts.

Washington has seen his number of carries go down every season, only getting the ball handed to him 30 times during the entire 2018 season. The Raiders have a solid group of backs, and Washington has not found a way to insert himself into that.

Chris Warren has not gotten his chance in the NFL yet, but he did dominate in the preseason a year ago. Warren rushed for over 200 yards in the preseason, and was the MVP in the preseason. Warren not only has proven some potential at running back, but many have been calling for him to be moved to fullback. With the injury of Keith Smith, this appears to be a realistic possibility, and could give him the edge over Deandre Washington.
