Quarterbacks
Derek Carr, Mike Glennon
The Raiders have clear-cut starting quarterback with Derek Carr under center. Once week one kicks off against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night football, Carr will start his sixth season opener.
In Carr’s early stages of his career, he emerged as one of the better young quarterbacks in the league, finishing fourth in the MVP after the 2016 season. Although since then, injuries and a fluctuation of different play-callers on the Oakland sideline have resulted in a different quarterback than the 2016 season. However, it’s still apparent that Carr has one of the stronger arms in all of football, and with Gruden chirping in his ear, the duo looks to be set up for successful 2019 season.
This offense is the most dynamic unit that Carr has been surrounded with throughout his NFL career. With that said, Carr’s connection with Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams is something that the Raiders can hang their hat on and force feed these two weapons on the outside.
Behind Carr at quarterback is veteran Mike Glennon. It’s important for the Raiders to have a serviceable backup, because as they’ve witnessed in the past, they’ve had to start EJ Manuel or Connor Cook from time-to-time. Glennon, a former third-round pick has started 22 games over his career thus far, but has spent the majority of his time in a back up role.
