Looking ahead
This was a pretty solid win for the Raiders, who finished the game with a 407-to-190 difference in total yards against the Rams. They were able to get a good effort from all areas of the team, and we got to see some guys really step up with the starters watching the game in street clothes.
The Raiders will have a short week after this one, as they will travel to the desert to take on 2019 No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night. It will also be a homecoming for J.J. Nelson, who played four seasons with the Cardinals before latching on with the Silver and Black in free agency this offseason.
Nelson looked very good in his Raiders debut, finishing behind only Keon Hatcher in receiving yards on Saturday night. Hatcher, who was a star for the Raiders during the 2018 preseason, once again looked like an NFL player in game No. 1, and he should get a long look from Jon Gruden and his staff once again this summer.
Expect to see more of the regulars on Thursday, as the Raiders sat 27 players who should play a key role on their team in 2019. Overall, this was a solid start to the preseason for the Raiders, who will look to rebound off of a four-win season in 2018.
