Stock up: DeAndre Washington

DeAndre Washington must be reading about himself and isn’t taking kindly to the things writers have had to say, because almost every writer (including myself) had projected him to not make the final 53-man roster. During the Rams game, Washington carried the ball six times for 24 yards and recorded a 4.0 yard per carry average and a touchdown.

While the carries and touchdown were impressive, what stood out was how purposefully Washington ran. Washington’s ball handling skills showed a definite improvement as he protected the ball in traffic and used his vision to make a quick read and cut inside to score.

Jalen Richard, Doug Martin, and Josh Jacobs all did not play in this game, which was a perfect chance for Washington, who showed good versatility on Saturday. If Washington continues to run the way he did on Saturday, he may force his way onto the Week 1 roster, and there is nothing like good competition at camp.
