JustBlogBaby.com interview with Brentson Buckner

Alex Perl: You played in the era of the 90’s and early 2000’s, now as a coach what do you see in this generation that is different from yours?

Brentson Buckner: The players are freaks of nature. They are, as a whole more athlete than football player…which isn’t bad.

AP: Clelin Ferrell, this year’s first round pick has lofty expectations this season, what have you seen from him that has been impressive? Also what do you think he needs to work on?

Buckner: Cle has a tremendous work ethic and he wants to be great. He constantly wants to know the ‘why’…Which is way more important than the ‘how’s and the ‘what’. He just needs to keep improving every day. As a player you’re always learning and evolving.

AP: After recent stops as defensive line coach of the Cardinals and Buccaneers, what is different about now working for the Raiders?

Buckner: This line is younger than the others. The others were veterans that needed fine tuning. We are building the engine from the ground up.

Arden Key is coming into a very important second season, what positives have you seen from him so far in training camp?

Buckner: He’s becoming a smarter more effective player. He’s developing  business like approach towards his craft.

AP: There are some younger players along the defensive line, what are your expectations for this group as a whole going into 2019?

Buckner: My expectations are for us to compete every day, every meeting, every practice, every game. We want to build a foundation with technique, knowledge and passion that will fuel the rebirth of the RAIDERS.
