Stock down: Nick Nelson

Nick Nelson enters his second season in the league, where he’s projected to rotate inside at slot cornerback behind Lamarcus Joyner. Now with a year under his belt, Nelson will likely be asked to do more in the secondary, and learning from Joyner is only going to be beneficial for his growth.

Nelson didn’t play the first week of the preseason, but did see the field against the Cardinals. It was a rocky start for the former fourth-round pick in his preseason debut, as he got beat on a couple plays downfield, leading to a touchdown. He ended the game with two solo tackles in the teams second win of the preseason.

Nelson isn’t on the verge on being released at this time, but his play must improve in his second year under Paul Guenther’s system. The Raiders brought aboard some key figures to the teams secondary, so if Nelson wants to be an impact player on the backend, he’ll need to change gears moving forward.
