Quarterback (2): Derek Carr, Mike Glennon
The Raiders starting quarterback is locked down. Derek Carr came into Week 2 of the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals and proved he is the man. Not only were his play adjustments at the line of scrimmage right on, but Carr went 2 of 2 for 40 yards and 1 TD.
Carr has only been in the same system for consecutive years one other time, his breakout 2016 campaign, which could lead to him having his best season as a pro in 2019.
The battle between the backups is still ongoing between Mike Glennon and Nathan Peterman. However, Glennon has made huge impressions over the past two games. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the love Gruden has shown Peterman, I don’t see how Nathan has any shot making this team based on his two first weeks.
"“I love you, but you can’t keep running into unblockable looks,” Gruden said. “You’re a smart guy, but you have to have the confidence to pull the trigger. You’re too nice. You have to be more like me. You have to be a little bit of a jerk.”"
Glennon drove the second-string offense against the Cardinals first-string defense and scored 17 straight points. He went 11-of-14 for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns. Just like last week, minus 2 interceptions, Glennon played really well driving the offense downfield.
Nathan Peterman came into the game and also played okay. But he had the luck of being up and only needed to manage the game. 8-of-8 is nice, but only 40 yards? I think this is Glennon’s job to lose.
