DeAndre Washington
Every year since his rookie season, DeAndre Washington has seen a decrease in total touches. To make matters worse, Oakland spent a first-round pick on running back Josh Jacobs. Between Washington’s diminishing role and the team’s investment in a younger back, the four-year veteran might be on the chopping block.
In just two games, the former Texas Tech Red Raider has accumulated 97 total yards from scrimmage. Part of Washington’s early success is a result of his improved vision, which is extremely important in the Raiders zone running scheme.
The back’s versatility has also been on display, as shown by his 35-yard reception against the Cardinals.
Making the team might have been an uphill battle for Washington at the start of training camp, but with his performances the last couple of weeks, that hill isn’t nearly as steep. As good as the first two weeks were, the running back needs to continue his success and finish the month strong.
