Oakland Raiders Week 1 53-man roster projection v.4
By Nick Ellis
Cornerback (5): Gareon Conley, Daryl Worley, Trayvon Mullen, Keisean Nixon, Isaiah Johnson
After the third preseason game, the cornerback position changes a bit. Gareon Conley, Daryl Worley, and Trayvon Mullen all have their spots on the team locked, and give the Raiders three very good cornerbacks as the starters.
Many believed Nick Nelson would come up with that next spot, but his showing in the game against the Packers more than likely lost him that opportunity. As Nelson got beat repeatedly, giving up a couple of touchdowns, Keisean Nixon was on the other side of the field locking receivers down, defending five passes in one-on-one situations.
Nelson losing his spot opens up opportunity for rookie Isaiah Johnson to make the team, at least until Nevin Lawson returns from suspension. Johnson has been dealing with a concussion this summer, but has the kind of raw talent that could make him very valuable to the Raiders in 2019.
If the Raiders role with five corners, these five will surely be the group that makes the team.
