Marcell Ateman, WR

Marcell Ateman joined the Raiders prior to the 2018 season as a 7th round draft pick out of Oklahoma State University. Ateman played in seven games in 2018, and finished the season with 15 receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown. He proved himself to be a tall target, and jump-ball specialist.

Ateman brought excitement to fans and a depleted wide receiver room, that was led by veteran Jordy Nelson after the Raiders traded former first round pick, Amari Cooper to the Cowboys. Due to injuries and lack of depth at wide receiver, Ateman saw significant playing time the second half of the season, and as the Raiders headed into the offseason, Ateman seemed to be a lock to make the 53-man roster in 2019.

However, the Raiders revamped this wide receiver group this offseason, as Gruden and Mayock brought in Tyrell Williams, JJ Nelson, and Ryan Grant via free agency. The Raiders also acquired superstar Antonio Brown via trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Along with the free agency and trade acquisitions, Oakland drafted Clemson standout slot wideout Hunter Renfrow, and signed UDFA Alameda native Keelan Doss. Doss, who is a faster, more aggressive and sure handed version of Ateman has made an immediate impact not only on the Raiders fans, but coaches and teammates as well.

With the emergence of Doss and the vastly upgraded talent at receiver, Ateman may be the odd man out.
