The Oakland Raiders have more talent at linebacker than they did a year ago, as a veteran has emerged as the leader of the defense in Year 1 with the team.

Since the Oakland Raiders finalized their 53-man roster prior to the Saturday deadline, there have been a lot of moves made on both sides of the ball. When it comes to the linebacker position, Oakland brought back Kyle Wilber, who will not only provide depth, but help tremendously on special teams.

Looking at the initial group, there was only four linebackers, with Vontaze Burfict being the only  middle linebacker. Nicholas Morrow, Tahir Whitehead, and Marquel Lee rounded out the group, which has since added Wilber.

The linebacking group was pretty straight forward this year and didn’t have much competition. Burfict was bound to start, Whitehead led the team in tackles in 2018, and Morrow, who earned a starting role in 2017 while filling in for Corey James, starts on the weakside.

The linebacker core is solid this year and can help the Raiders win the AFC West.
