Derek Carr

This is the most obvious pick of all but still a necessary one. Derek Carr is coming into 2019 with a much better supporting cast than he worked with this past season. Carr also has some stability within the coaching staff with the second year in Jon Gruden’s system, so he should be more comfortable.

With all that, there is an added amount of pressure for him to perform and prove he is the guy who can lead Oakland back to consistent winning. The media has not been in favor of Carr, and many believe he is not the longer-term guy. But he will get the chance to silence all that noise starting next Monday.

Throughout this season Carr will get multiple chances to go up against some of the best quarterbacks in the league. However, for week one he will need to contend with one of the more stout defensive teams in the league.

The Denver Broncos under new head coach Vic Fangio look poised to have one of the best defenses in the league and are a great test for this upgraded Raiders offense.

Carr has faced Fangio led defenses in the past and is 1-1. The first was great performance against the 49ers back in 2014 then a mediocre outing against the Bears in 2015.

If Carr can come out and perform well, it will be a great sign as the Raiders continue on with a grueling schedule the first few weeks.

A win on Monday would also get Carr’s record back to .500 against the AFC West rival.
