The Oakland Raiders did everything they could to help Antonio Brown, but the team released him before playing a single snap in Silver and Black.
Helmets, frostbites and fines, oh my! The Oakland Raiders have been through it all with Antonio Brown this summer, and before Week 1 of the NFL regular season, it all came to a head.
On Tuesday night, the Raiders star wide receiver took to social media to display his fine from general manager Mike Mayock for missing mandatory practices at training camp. Citing the Raiders as “haters”, apparently Mayock didn’t take too kindly to the social media jabs at him and there was a confrontation at practice.
Brown reportedly was involved in a heated exchange with Mayock over the fine and Brown was said to have been held back.
After sending Brown home Wednesday, and telling him to stay away on Thursday, there was still no word as to what the team planned to do with him for Week 1. While playing against the Denver Broncos seemed out of the question, Brown issued an apology to the team, and was welcomed back with open arms Friday.
Friday night, Brown posted a video to YouTube apparently wiretapping Jon Gruden, and by Saturday morning, he had all of his guaranteed money taken away, and was asking for his release.
What a game week!
Now, the team has decided to part ways with AB, saving all the money owed to him, and heading into the season without him.
Yes, you read that right the seven-time pro bowler that the Raiders traded for in March has been released by the team before he has even suited up in a game for the Raiders.
The Raiders go into a game against a bitter rival in the Denver Broncos Monday night with a monster pass rush and arguably the best corner in the league, without the best receiver in the league. Talk about a confidence builder for a quarterback, Derek Carr, coming off of a shaky 2018 campaign in which he was sacked 51 times, with a rookie running back and slot receiver and first year free agent Tyrell Williams at wide receiver.
Brown’s moves were incredibly selfish and self -centered and have jeopardized the teams chances at victory. This is a sad ending to a very sad time in Raiders history.
