Derek Carr and Jon Gruden the biggest losers from AB drama
Jon Gruden
It’s been mentioned that Jon Gruden had to have known what he was getting into with the trade for Antonio Brown, but I doubt anyone expected this.
After a rough first season back with Oakland, there was a lot of pressure for Gruden to get things turned in the right direction. He made it known that 2018 was a miserable season for him, and he had no intention of repeating it. Gruden made plenty of moves to stockpile draft picks and spent a good amount of money during free agency to improve the roster. Then when the prospect of grabbing a talented wide receiver appeared, he jumped at the opportunity.
The price was not steep, and it looked like Gruden had stolen a premier talent. However, it is now clear why the Steelers were willing to give Brown away for such a small price.
There is no way to look at this situation and not see Gruden as the biggest loser from the Raiders organization. He stuck his neck out multiple times for Brown even at the expense of his attempts to bring a professional culture to the team.
His attempt at being the good cop did not go as planned, and now he’s got to try and maintain his hold on the locker room.
He let a lot slide with Brown and even with his release, how much did that affect the young minds on the roster?
Did the desire the turn things around so quickly get the best of Gruden?
That’s a question worth debating.
