Oakland Raiders: 2020 NFL Mock Draft roundup v1.0
By Nick Ellis
We take our first look around the internet at who the experts feel the Oakland Raiders could take with their two first round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Oakland Raiders currently hold two first round picks in the 2020 NFL draft, and although we have no idea where those picks will be, some experts from other sites have taken a shot at predicting where NFL teams will finish this season.
The Raiders still are in need of help at multiple positions throughout the depth chart, so let’s take a look at some possible prospects the Raiders could end up with a year from now.
Chris Trapasso- CBS Sports
Pick 14- Isaiah Simmons- S- Clemson
Pick 18- Tee Higgins- WR- Clemson
First, we take a look at a mock draft done by Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports, where he currently has the Raiders with the 14th and 15th picks of the NFL draft based on the Raiders and Bears current records.
This mock drafts has the Raiders taking two Clemons players, and after the 2019 draft, you can’t blame him. The first pick has the Raiders taking Safety Isaiah Simmons to lineup opposite of Johnathan Abram. GM Mike Mayock talked about the Raiders using safeties at linebacker in the future, and that is something that Simmons could easily do. If the Raiders do not resign Karl Joseph, this is a very possible move.
With the second pick, the Raiders take Clemons wide receiver Tee Higgins. The Raiders are badly in need of another wide receiver, and Higgins is a player that can do it all. At 6’4, Higgins was a huge piece in Clemon’s offensive success in 2019, and he already has been a force in his first three games of this season too.
Joe Tansey- Bleacher Report
Pick 14- Raekwon Davis- DT- Alabama
Pick 18- Tyler Biadasz- C- Wisconsin
Taking a look at a mock draft done by Joe Tansey on Bleacher Report, the Raiders could go in a completely different direction than the previously mentioned picks. This mock draft has the Raiders with the 14th and 18th picks of the draft, as well, and the Raiders use their first pick to boost the defensive line.
Davis is a player that can move all over the line, playing defensive tackle and defensive end at times. He showed the ability to get to the quarterback in 2017, but those numbers fell hard in 2018. If Davis can step his game back up to what it was his sophomore season, he could be a first round talent.
The second pick for the Raiders is one that I disagree with, as the Raiders select Wisconsin center Tyler Biadasz. Biadasz was one of the best centers in college football last season, but the Raiders recently extended Rodney Hudson, so a center does not seem in the cards as of now.
Cody Williams- NFL Spin Zone
Pick 2- Jerry Jeudy- WR- Alabama
Pick 18- Creed Humphrey- C- Oklahoma
In a mock draft done by Cody Williams of NFL Spin Zone, the Raiders have the second pick of the draft, as well as the 18th pick. The Raiders use both picks to boost the offense in this mock draft, despite the defense showing issues in the Week 2 game against the Chiefs.
With their first pick, the Raiders select the best receiver in the draft in Jerry Jeudy. Jeudy could come in and be the number one wide receiver on the team immediately, and he and Tyrell Williams would be a great one-two punch. Jeudy recorded over 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, and is one pace to do even better than that this year.
With their second pick, the Raiders select Oklahoma center Creed Humphrey. Humphrey played every game at center in 2018, so he does not come off as a player that could transition to a guard. Again, the Raiders more than likely won’t be looking to draft a center after extending Rodney Hudson, even if a talented player like Humphrey is on the board.
Walterfootball.com
Pick 7- Laviska Shenault- WR Colorado
Pick 24- Khalid Kareem- DE- Notre Dame
Walterfootball.com produces updated mock drafts every week, and in their most recent post, they have the Raiders with the seventh and 24th picks of the 2020 NFL draft. The Raiders select a receiver to boost their offense, as well as a defensive end to help the Raiders defensive line.
With their first pick, the Raiders select Colorado receiver Laviska Shenault. Laviska had a big season for Colorado in 2018, recording over 1,000 yards. His ability to make plays after the catch is something that the Raiders could use, especially without a true number two receiver.
With their second pick, the Raiders select Notre Dame defensive end Khalid Kareem. The Raiders have shown an improved pass rush, but there is still a lot of work to be done, especially if Arden Key does not start showing up.
Ben Standig -NBC Sports
Pick 2- Justin Herbert- QB- Oregon
Pick 26- Dylan Moses- LB- Alabama
You can’t talk about a mock draft for the Raiders without mentioning them selecting a quarterback for the move to Vegas, and that is exactly what Ben Standig of NBC Sports does in his mock draft. The Raiders have the second pick, as well as the 26th pick in this mock draft.
With the second pick of the draft, the Raiders move on from Derek Carr and go with Oregon QB Justin Herbert. This season will more than likely decide Carr’s future with the Oakland Raiders, and if the team does bad enough to hold the second pick of the draft, Carr probably will have performed poorly. Many people believe Herbert is the best quarterback in this draft, and he is a player Jon Gruden would love to have.
With their next pick, the Raiders select Alabama linebacker Dylan Moses. Although Moses will miss this entire season, he still may be a first round talent, as he would have been a top ten pick before his injury. Moses is one of the best tacklers in college football, and the Raiders could use some youth at the position.
