Darren Waller 15+ Targets

Darren Waller had 13 receptions on 14 targets for 134 yards and also notched a carry for an additional seven yards. Waller’s 13 catches were one shy of a Raiders franchise record, not bad given he didn’t get his first target until 9:51 left in the second quarter (when Oakland was already facing a 21-0 deficit).

Waller had to get going early on often, but perhaps Jon Gruden didn’t listen? Defenses will scheme against Waller, it’s clearly apparent that he’s the Raiders’ top offensive threat. But that doesn’t matter, the Raiders should give him 15+ targets on a weekly basis.

He presents that much of a matchup advantage, and Gruden can’t afford to wait until the second quarter to get him going.

Waller’s 134 receiving yards on Sunday was the most posted by a tight end so far this season. Yes, so far he’s bested the likes of his own divisional rival Travis Kelce. Oakland has a potential breakout player on their hands with Waller, and they can’t afford to not use him properly.
