Cleaning up the Secondary

Last week in Minnesota the Raiders won the passing battle. Kirk Cousins did not by any means torch Oakland through the air, nor did Adam Thielen or Stephon Diggs go off for a breakout performance, but the Raiders secondary had a disappointing showing nonetheless. More concerning, so many of their errors looked like fundamental mistakes.

Gareon Conely was bested by Diggs in third-and-short situations and followed it up with a facemask. Karl Joseph failed to turn his head around and was easily called for interference. And despite Johnathan Abram still being a rookie, his absence has made the safety spot look suspect for the Raiders, to say the least.

Week 4 is an opportunity to get back on track. Jacoby Brissett is promising but he is by no means Patrick Mahomes (who did torch Oakland in Week 2) and there is a great likelihood that T.Y. Hilton doesn’t suit up on Sunday with a quad injury. The situation is set up for Oakland’s secondary to bounce back against the Colts.
