Hunter Renfrow

So far, it has been a bit of an underwhelming season for the rookie, as he has only gathered nine catches for 71 yards and 0 touchdowns. Given his pedigree at Clemson, expectations are probably higher for Renfrow than a typical fifth-round pick, so there is no reason to panic. However, the lack of production from the Raiders offense as a whole calls for someone within the receiving core to step up, and this week the slot receiver has a chance to turn his season around.

The two graphics below show where Philip Rivers and Matt Ryan had success against Indianapolis in weeks one and three. On intermediate throws (0-10 yards) between the numbers and hash marks, the quarterbacks completed 19 of 19 passes for three touchdowns. These statistics would make any slot receiver excited.

In college Renfrow made a living in this area of the field, and clearly this is an area of weakness for Indy’s defense. We should be hearing the phrase: “Third and Renfrow” quite often this week.
