Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers faced their first divisional opponent of 2019, with the winless Denver Broncos coming to Dignity Health Sports Park. Despite not having Mike Williams in uniform, Phillip Rivers still had Keenan Allen at his disposal, with Austin Ekeler sharing snaps with the returning Melvin Gordon. Signs easily pointed to a Chargers victory.

Yet it was (again) the opposite, and the script was flipped in this AFC West divisional matchup. The Broncos jumped to a 17-0 lead by halftime, and Phillip Rivers was abysmal on the day. Completing 66 percent of his passes for zero touchdowns and two interceptions, Rivers’ had a 58.6 passer rating in the Chargers’ 20-13 loss at home.

Gordon was rusty in his return, having just 12 carries for 31 yards rushing, and Ekeler did even less with a fumble to his name. Kennan Allen’s 18 yards receiving were his lowest of the season, all the reasons for a disappointing Chargers loss.
