The AFC West has been dominated by the Chiefs and Chargers over the past few years, but the Oakland Raiders are proving to be a factor in 2019.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to stand at the top of the AFC West after Week 5, but a Sunday Night Football loss to the Indianapolis Colts, a team the Raiders handled just a week prior, proves that they are not unbeatable.

The Chiefs offense was shut down by the Colts, losing the game 19-13 in a defensive battle. We will give the Chiefs the benefit of the doubt knowing that Patrick Mahomes was limited with injury, but if they cannot battle through adversity when their best player is not at 100%, the Chiefs are going to struggle to win the big game.

The Oakland Raiders continue to shock people, as they went to London in Week 5 a big underdog against the Bears. The storyline heading into the game was that it was a revenge game for Khalil Mack, but Mack had no chance against the Raiders offensive line, and Derek Carr was not sacked a single time.

Josh Jacobs is proving to be worth a first-round pick, as he tallied over 150 total yards and two touchdowns against the best defense in the NFL. This team is proving everyone wrong and could be a team we see in the playoffs in a few months.

After Week 5, here is the current AFC West standing.

The Chargers continue to disappoint, as they dropped their Week 5 matchup to the division rival Denver Broncos. The Chargers fall to 2-3, putting them in third place in the AFC West.

This team is plagued with injuries as of now, but with how much talent they have on their roster, they should still be able to win games. Only putting up 13 points against Denver is inexcusable when having talent such as Philip Rivers, Austin Ekeler, Melvin Gordon, and Keenan Allen on the team.

On the other hand, the Broncos pull out their first win of the season, defeating the Chargers 20-13. The Broncos defense stepped up in a big way, forcing Rivers to throw two interceptions and no touchdowns on the day.

Denver is not a threat to win this division, but they are not as bad as their record shows. They have three each of their four losses by one possession, and three of their losses are against teams with winning records.
