The Good

Josh Jacobs

One could argue that the Alabama product deserves to be the team MVP. Jacobs has racked up 430 rushing yards and four touchdowns, and has been the most consistent player on offense. Some questioned the value of drafting a running back in the first round, but clearly the selection is paying off for Oakland so far.

The only knock on the young back is a lack of production in the passing game, but that seems to fall on play-caller Jon Gruden’s shoulders. Through five games, Jacobs has only seen nine targets, however, that trend appears to be turning around since Jacobs saw four targets in week five.

Maxx Crosby

Grade: B

A broken hand hindered the beginning of the Eastern Michigan product’s career. However, in Week 4, Crosby burst on the scene and showed potential as both a pass rusher and run defender.

This past week the rookie recorded his first career sack, and he has seen an increase in playing time, suggesting he is a cornerstone for Oakland’s rebuild.

Grade: B

A.J. Cole

In 2018, the Silver and Black’s punting situation was abysmal, as Johnny Townsend averaged 43.2 yards per punt. So far, A.J. Cole has been a sigh of relief for special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia.

The undrafted free agent from NC State averages 47.2 yards per punt this year.

Grade: B

Alec Ingold

The NFL is all about taking advantage of your opportunities. Last year’s fullback Keith Smith went down with an injury early in training camp, and undrafted rookie Alec Ingold took advantage. As an undrafted free agent, just making the team is an accomplishment and the former Wisconsin Badger has doubled down by securing a starting role.
