Kansas City Chiefs

The battle between two former first-round quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson was the most prominent storyline heading into Sunday. The Kansas City Chiefs, coming off their first loss of the season, hosted Watson and the surging Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs were -3.5 favorites, but spoiler alert: hopefully you didn’t have faith in the AFC West’s leader covering the spread.

Mahomes is the engine of the Chiefs offense, but the Indianapolis Colts gave the blueprint in shutting down Kansas City the week prior. On Sunday, the Texans won the time of possession battle, dominated the running game with 194 yards rushing, and delivered the Chiefs a back-to-back loss, with a final score of 31-24.

Mahomes is unquestionably the Chiefs’ greatest strength, but that defense is the complete anthesis. You can run up the gut or strategically exploit their secondary. For Jon Gruden and the Raiders, please take note.
