Kansas City Chiefs
Having suffered rare back-to-back losses at home, the Kansas City Chiefs’ matchup with their rival Denver Broncos suddenly carried a little more weight than usual. Favored heading into the game, the Chiefs got back to their winning ways with a 30-6 win but suffered perhaps a greater loss in the immediate aftermath.
Already suffering a lingering ankle injury, Patrick Mahomes was injured while attempting a quarterback sneak at the goal line. Initially looking like a severe knee injury, MRI results revealed the best-case scenario became reality. Mahomes is out for multiple weeks with a dislocated kneecap, and there is a likelihood of returning later in the season.
In his absence it was the Chiefs defense that stepped up, stripping Joe Flacco and converting the fumble into a touchdown. With Mahomes out for the near future, it will be up to Kansas City’s defense to take on a larger role in keeping the Chiefs afloat in a wide-open AFC West.
