The AFC West currently has only one team over the .500 mark entering Week 9 of the 2019 NFL season, and that is the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 2019 NFL season is entering Week 9, and for the AFC West, there is only one team with a winning record. That team is the Kansas City Chiefs, who like most of the division, lost in Week 8, but they are still sitting at 5-3 on the season.

Being without Patrick Mahomes is going to hurt the Chiefs, who will have to take on the Minnesota Vikings this weekend. While it remains to be seen if Mahomes will actually be back this weekend, I would not count on it, as his knee dislocated less than two weeks ago.

In Week 8, the Los Angeles Chargers were the only team to get a win, as they went to Chicago and beat the Bears in front of their home fans. The Denver Broncos lost their second in a row, this time on a last second field goal by Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri, as their disaster of a season continues.

Like the Broncos, the Oakland Raiders also lost their second straight, this time in heartbreaking fashion as well. Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans scored 14 points in the fourth quarter against a Raiders defense that could not get stops, though the Silver and Black will finally return home for the first time since Week 2 this Sunday.

Here is the AFC West standings after Week 8 of the 2019 NFL season:

As it stands, if the season ended tomorrow, the Chiefs would be the only team from the division in the AFC Playoffs. The Raiders missed on a golden opportunity this past Sunday against the Texans to cement their place in the playoff race, although the schedule gets soft for the Raiders over the  next few weeks, and they should be able to make a move.

Denver will likely place Joe Flacco on IR, ending not only his season, but his run with the Broncos possibly. The Chargers fired offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt on Monday as well, so for some of the  teams in the division, the season has already gone off the rails.
