Lamarcus Joyner
One of the most disappointing players on Oakland’s roster this season is also the highest-paid defensive player. When targeted, Joyner allows a completion percentage of 74.4, 384 yards, three touchdowns, and a passer rating of 124.6. The season is at the halfway mark and all of those numbers are higher than last year for the defensive back.
Beyond any sort of matchup, the organization needs to start getting its money’s worth when it comes to Joyner. The team ranks 30th and dead last in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns allowed, respectively. While that doesn’t fall completely on the veteran’s shoulders, he clearly isn’t helping solve the problem either.
Facing a prolific passing attack like Detroit’s isn’t exactly an ideal situation for a defensive back who is trying to bounce back. However, the clock is ticking for Joyner and the team needs him to be the catalyst for a defensive turnaround. If not, he will join the long list of underwhelming free-agent signings for the Silver and Black, and any playoff chances will feel like an illusion.
