Derek Carr is the Raiders Franchise QB
All last season, the national sports media harpooned in on one narrative: “Is Derek Carr the Raiders quarterback of the future, or would Jon Gruden trade him away just as he did Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper?”.
Throughout the preseason, all eyes were on Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock as they attended the pro days of Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins, only to complete the 2019 NFL draft without selecting a quarterback. As the season begun, the narrative switched to “This is a make or break year for Derek Carr” and here we are.
As Derek Carr is silencing the doubters and having one of his best seasons in the Silver and Black, one fact remains, Derek Carr is the franchise quarterback for the Raiders. In a season that has so far seen the team’s No. 1 receiver force his release three days before the home opener, and more travel miles in a seven-week span than most teams face in a season, Carr is overcoming the odds.
He has continued to stand tall in the face of adversity and has been the vocal leader the Raiders need as the team embarks into the second half of the season in hopes of making a strong playoff push.
