Derek Carr in 2016 mode

It’s understandable if Raiders fans get a bit anxious when Derek Carr dives for the endzone touchdown, but on Sunday he added a successful rushing touchdown to his resume. Faced with pressure, Carr scrambled and made a play, diving for the touchdown that had a feeling that was reminiscent of 2016.

Ultimately, it was another example of Carr operating at his peak in year two of Jon Gruden’s system. No surprise there, that was the same case back in 2016, the last time Derek Carr was in the second year of an offensive scheme. On Sunday, Derek Carr completed 86 percent of his passes and connected with Foster Moreau to add a touchdown through the air.

In recent weeks, Carr has been sharp, he’s led comebacks, and has more than delivered when called upon in the moments that matter most. All in a day’s work for a franchise quarterback that has silenced all of his doubters in 2019, and is the right choice to lead this team moving forward as the quarterback of the Las Vegas Raiders.
