The Oakland Raiders played their worst game of the season against the New York Jets in a game that many considered a trap game.

The Oakland Raiders looked awful in this game from start to finish as the New York Jets dominated the entire game. The Raiders struggled early because of dropped passes, not being able to cover the crossing routes, and not being able to run the ball.

On offense, Derek Carr moved well and was throwing solid passes, but drops on third downs by Hunter Renfrow and Tyrell Williams killed the momentum of two drives that could have changed the pace of the game altogether.

The Jets have the best rushing defense in the NFL, so it was clear that the Raiders would struggle to run the ball, but nobody could have predicted Oakland to struggle to move the ball altogether for the entire day.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Raiders started off slow, not being able to cover any crossing routes, and appearing to be covering some of the fastest Jets wide receivers with linebackers. Sam Darnold tore the Raiders up all day, finding Robby Anderson for multiple big plays, as well as Le’Veon Bell looking like his old self.

Everything that could possibly go wrong for the Raiders went wrong, and the team had a reality check. The team clearly has a ton of holes that need to be addressed in the offseason, but if the team wants to make a push to get into the playoffs, they are going to need to make changes sooner rather than later.

Although the Raiders offense has played well this season, today was a clear reminder that we still do not have a WR1, and although Tyrell Williams is good, he is extremely inconsistent. On the other side of the ball, the defensive line played against a group of backups for the Jets and did not generate nearly enough pressure.

The linebackers for the Raiders continue to be an issue as the Raiders cannot cover the middle of the field or the flats, and they still struggle to tackle. The Jets offense has played well lately, but they are far from a top offense in the league, even though the Raiders made them look like one.

Three Stars

1. Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold has been playing great football lately, and he continued that against the Raiders. Darnold torched Oakland’s defense all game. He got protection, found wide open recovers, and exploited a Raiders secondary that had a rough afternoon.

2. Robby Anderson

Robby Anderson made big plays for the Jets early and often, including a touchdown in the third quarter that helped put the game out of reach. Anderson took advantage of the Raiders’ weak secondary, catching balls on trick plays, crossing routes, and outright beating the defender in any way he wanted to.

3. Jamal Adams

Jamaal Adams may not have filled the stat sheet, but he had a massive impact on the game. The Raiders were clearly scared to death of the Jets’ star, and for good reason. Adams locked down Raiders’ receivers all day, rushed Carr into check-downs and bad passes, and recorded a sack.

Looking Ahead

The Raiders need to put this game behind them right away, and the way to make people forget about this awful performance is to go to Kansas City, beat the Chiefs, and tie them for the division’s lead.

The Raiders fall to 6-5 after the loss to the Jets, but they still are right there in the playoff race for a wild card spot and are only one game behind the Chiefs for the division. Outside of the Week 13 matchup against the Chiefs, the Raiders have a favorable schedule that they have to take advantage of.

dark. Next. Raiders at Jets: 3 bold predictions in Week 12

If the Raiders play like they did this week, they won’t beat a single team in the NFL, but it is unfair to give up on the team after one week. Most people, including Raiders’ fans, know that the Raiders are not a top tier team yet, and this Jets game was going to be tough.

The Raiders have battled through adversity all season, and they are going to have to do it again if they want to be in the playoffs.
