Carr versus the cold

Derek Carr will likely disregard the claims per usual, but the evidence is there to prove it (and Sunday’s performance in New York added more fuel). Carr has not been at his best in the cold weather as former Raiders coach Jack Del Rio attested to.

Including Sunday’s 34-3 loss to the Jets, Derek Carr is 0-4, averages 152 passing yards, has three touchdowns to four interceptions, and a 9 total QBR in games where the temperature is under 40 degrees at kick-off.

Sunday’s AFC West battle is expected to be in the 30 degrees range, and it is important to note that Carr has yet to win at Arrowhead Stadium. He’s proven to be a franchise quarterback, but the obstacle at Arrowhead has proven to be the lingering hurdle for him to overcome.

Does he need to throw for 300 plus yards and fill the stat sheet on Sunday in order to give Oakland its best chance at a victory? Not necessarily, but Kansas City will work to bottle up the run game and force Carr to make plays from the pocket. Carr knows this, he should expect it, and most importantly be ready to overcome that obstacle.
