Nevin Lawson
Having depth at cornerback is never a bad idea, but Nevin Lawson, the former Detroit Lion has been a liability on the field. Outside of an impressive outing against the Bengals, the defensive back has struggled in coverage as he allows a passer rating of 118.4 and a 66.7 completion percentage when targeted.
Lamarcus Joyner‘s injury gave Lawson an opportunity to prove himself but he clearly did not make the most of the situation. With these two shouldering the majority of the load, covering slot receivers has been an issue for Oakland so expect some changes to be made.
Joyner’s contract is expensive for the team to get out of, which means Lawson is likely on his way out and the Raiders will continue their search for a nickel back. In addition, the 2020 NFL Draft class is loaded with cornerback talent, Isaiah Johnson should make a big improvement in Year 2, and guys like Daryl Worley and Trayvon Mullen are the clear starters at this point.
