D. J. Swearinger

On November 9th, the Raiders signed D. J. Swearinger to a contract to replace injured safety, Karl Joseph. Swearinger was signed through the end of the 2019 season. They paid him about $380K, and the investment has been well worth it on both ends.

Swearinger has 15 tackles including three run stops and one pass break up in three games. He was able to come in and learn Paul Guenther’s defense and has had a nice impact for a defense who has lost many players on that defense:

Swearinger has been one of the best safeties over the past three years, unfortunately, due to some critical comments made by Swearinger to the Redskins coaching staff and management, teams have been hesitant to bring him in.

The Raiders gave him a shot, and he’s shown up. If the Raiders want a solid player to start alongside Johnathan Abram next year, D.J. will be the perfect fit. Could you imagine a secondary with the following players: Daryl Worley, Trayvon Mullen, D.J. Swearinger, Johnathan Abram, Lamarcus Joyner.

With some good pass rush, I believe that unit could be a really good one in Oakland, but Swearinger will need to be re-signed and I believe Mike Mayock and Paul Guenther will want D.J. back.
